The Japanese Language Kit contains all the software you need to work in Japanese on your computer. It will enable you to use a Japanese application or an application that takes advantage of WorldScript. Either of these applications will allow you to enter English and Japanese in a single document.
Before you install the Japanese Language Kit you must install Macintosh System Software version 7.1 or later. You will also need the following configuration:
- a hard disk with at least 20 Megabytes available if you plan to install the TrueType fonts
- at least 4 Megabytes of RAM
The language kit consists of 14 high density disks:
Install 1, Install 2
Font 1, Font 2, Font 3, Font 4, Font 5, Font 6,
Font 7, Font 8, Font 9, Font 10, Font 11, Font 12
The above disks contain all of the files that make up the Japanese Language Kit. These include the WorldScript II extension, the Japanese Language Kit extension, the Japanese script file, Kotoeri - the Macintosh Japanese input method, and the Osaka font - the Japanese system font. Also included are the HonMincho and MaruGothic TrueType fonts, and bitmap versions of the ChuGothic and SaiMincho Postscript fonts. A new utility, the Japanese Language Register, is included to allow you to specify which of your application programs should be opened in Japanese. All applications registered for Japanese will display menus, dialog boxes, and other on-screen elements in Japanese. Finally, TeachText Japanese, a Japanese version of TeachText, is also installed on your hard disk.
ABOUT INSTALLATION
It is recommended that you use Easy Install. This will install the entire Japanese Language Kit including the TrueType fonts. If the Installer indicates that you don't have enough space to complete this installation, then you will need to use the Customize button to separately install the parts of the Language Kit. If you do not need or want the TrueType fonts, you may use the Japanese Language Support option under Customize and this only requires 2 megabytes of space.
LASEWRITER NTX-J
If you have a laserwriter NTX-J, you need to install the ChuGothic and SaiMincho fonts using the Customize button.
